Serge Abergel, COO Hydro Quebec

Together with MAPLE New York Executive Director, John Costanzo, we are delighted to welcome Serge Abergel, Chief Operating Officer at Hydro-Québec Energy Services, to our Canada-U.S. community as our newest Executive Member.

Serge took office as Chief Operating Officer of Hydro-Québec Energy Services in December 2021. This subsidiary of Hydro-Québec is responsible for hydro power export initiatives to the New York and New England markets.

Since joining Hydro-Québec in 2014, he has held various positions in media,  stakeholder relations, and government affairs. He has also led information campaigns on the company's export initiatives and is a frequent public speaker on Hydro-Québec's clean energy generating fleet and transmission system. Prior to his most recent appointment, he served as Director-Communications.

Serge has considerable previous experience working as a public affairs officer in the Canadian Armed Forces and the federal correctional system.  He holds a bachelor's degree in operations management from HEC Montréal.

Hydro-Québec is the largest generator of renewable energy in North America with more than 99% of its electricity produced by hydropower: a clean and reliable form of energy. They generate, transmit, and distribute electricity, and operate a vast high-voltage transmission system. For decades Hydro-Québec has been a committed partner providing renewable energy to neighbouring markets in the Northeast. Hydro-Québec Energy Services is their U.S. subsidiary.

Please join us in welcoming Serge Abergel to MAPLE and, as always, thank you for your support and participation.
